The Labradoodle is a unique and fascinating dog which was first intentionally bred in Australia. Its early origins trace back to  Northern Victoria, although credit is usually given to the Guide Dog Associations - due to the media coverage gained at that time as the search for a low allergy Guide Dog led to the breeding of Labradoodles.

The Father is a white CKC Registered Std. Poodle and the mom is a light yellow AKC registered Labrador.   Click here to view Pictures of our new Puppies

Temperament
This breed craves human company and excels as a companion for those with disabilities, visual impairments, young children and the elderly. They are very trainable and get along with other dogs well. The Labradoodle is incredibly loyal to their family and makes an excellent watchdog. Their single layer coat keeps them cool in the heat and warm in the cold. They adapt well to different situations. They are content to run along with you or join you for a relaxing reading session.

History of Labradoodles
A Standard Poodle and a Labrador Retriever were bred together in response to an enquiry by a blind lady in Hawaii who needed a low allergy Guide Dog.

In the first litter there were three puppies who were low allergy and very smart and easy to train. This was exciting enough to encourage further attempts at breeding more good examples. Sometimes there were allergy friendly puppies in a litter and other times not - but it was enough to start the Labradoodle as a beginning new breed, on its way.

The Labrador's easy going ways and the Poodle's smartness made for an interesting combination and an exciting discovery, was that a percentage of each litter had puppies which appeared to be allergy friendly. An added bonus, was the lack of shedding in some of these puppies, and the absence of doggy smell.

Characteristics
The Labradoodle is known for its outstanding intelligence and trainability, low allergy coat, low to non-shedding coat and lack of doggie odor. They are slightly heavier than the Standard Poole with strong front limbs. They are an overall balanced dog, with a slightly longer than square build. They come in three sizes: Standard, Medium, and Miniature. There are curly or wavy coats and they come in seven different colors: Black, Chalk, Creams, Apricot, Chocolate, Cafe au Lait and Silver. The coat should be about 4-6 inches in length. The Labradoodle's head is broad and their eyes are large, slightly round and set apart. Their nose is square and large. The tail is like a saber and should be low set.

Grooming
The wavy coat Labradoodle needs very little grooming. Curly coat Labradoodles require regular grooming and should be clipped two to three times a year. Neither requires frequent bathing and as their coat repels moisture and dirt.
